2009 Junior Olympics
The 2009 Junior Olympics is in Des Moines Iowa. We have enough swimmers who have qualified for the meet so we
are going to attend this year. Junior Olympics will not be back to the region until 2014 so this is a great opportunity for
our swimmers.

The Swim Meet begins on Monday, August 3 with a celebration of athletes. The meet runs Tuesday- Friday with specific
events each day. Each day has a prelim for scheduled events during the day and timed finals in the evening.
2009 Junior Olympics Update- July 21

We have 16 swimmers attending the meet. I am going to find out from South Family who they are bringing so we can do
some relays as well.
Andrew, Anthony and Lyndsay Praml, Beth, Frankie and Hannah Zobitz, Mikki and Josie Suchomel, Tara and Maddie
Smith, Bailey Letourneau, Sam Granec, Sami Kaiser, Justin Jones
Jacquie Sittler, Rachel Booker

Now what:
I am going to put in everyone’s box a form to fill out so I have a way of contacting people once we are on the road. I will e-
mail this out to everyone as well. Please get it back to me before August 1.

Come to practice as much as you can during the next few weeks.

Once we get to Des Moines each swimmer needs to have their credentials in order to get on the pool deck. These can
only be picked up at certain times at Veterans Auditorium. Depending on when you are arriving in Des Moines I may
need to pick up your credentials and goody bag. If this is the case I will need to make sure I get them to you before your
first day at the pool. I believe most everyone has reservations at the Walnut Creek Inn. I will not be there the entire week,
but will be Wednesday and Thursday night. Swimmers credentials get them into any venue during the week. Tickets for
spectators will be sold a registration and at each venue. Daily pass is $12; passport for the week is $40.

All events need to be swum each day. 10 and under events will be swum like a regular meet with your finish time as a
final result. Everyone else will swim during the day as a prelim and then the top 8 or 16 (they didn’t specify) will go on to
finals in the evening. If an event is missed during the day then that swimmer is done for the rest of that day. If a
swimmer makes the evening finals they can scratch that event during the “scratch time period”. If a swimmer fails to
compete in a final that they did not scratch from during that time they are out the remainder of the meet.

For those who are going the entire week it will be a long week so please plan on how you are going to stay rested,
hydrated and well nourished. We don’t have anyone swimming on Wednesday so it would be fun to do something
together that day in Des Moines. Let’s think about that. Also, I had a request to find a pasta place for Wednesday night
dinner together.

Anyone who plans to swim the home meet on Saturday, August 8th needs to have their entry submitted before they
leave for JO. I plan on being back in time for the meet.

Questions?? Feel free to give me a call or send an e-mail.
